SEKHUKHUNE – Ithateng Crèche in Phokwane Village recently received a new modern building and toys. The building was handed over by Anglo American, in partnership with the Sekhukhune District Municipality.
Idah Manchidi, principal of the crèche, said that they had opened the facility in 2000 to help care for young children whose parents are at work. “The generous donation is warmly welcomed. The children used to sit on the floor of a two-roomed building. We are thankful to the good Samaritans who have helped us with the much-needed building and equipment,” Manchidi added.
Anglo American’s Benny Boshielo said he is part of the rural upliftment trust, which was initiated by mining mogul, Patrice Motsepe, and aims to change the lives of villagers.
“We decided to develop this crèche in order to improve education in rural communities. Children are our future leaders and, if we nurture them well, we will have good leaders of tomorrow.”
SDM’s mayor, Stan Ramaila also urged the community and teachers to take care of the donated items and building.
