BURGERSFORT – Ronaldo Mabelane (19) possesses a unique talent. He is the master of fine, visual arts and graffiti and believes he is the best drawer Tubatse has ever had.
This matric pupil from Moukangoe Secondary School said his love of drawing started during his early school days at Marota Primary School.
“I started drawing since my days at primary school, but my love of art increased when I enrolled at Moukangoe Secondary School. I was the school’s hero, excelling in arts competitions,” Ronaldo said.
He remembered looking at the illustrations on the inside of colouring books and realised, “I could create things myself rather than just colour inside the lines. I also drew portraits of my friend and relatives.”
Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Ronaldo said he wishes to work for the SAPS as an identikit artist.
“I wish to combat crime, and I want to use my artistic talent in making South Africa a better country. I can easily sketch people while someone is explaining their features.”
Limpopo SAPS communication officer, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said if someone is hired as an identikit artist, they work in the facial identification department.
“The identikit artist renders support in the investigation of crime cases by means of facial identification techniques.”
According to Career Planet, for one to qualify as an indentikit artist he has to complete the basic crime investigation course that is presented internally by the SAPS and be in possession of a grade 12 certificate and a code 08 driver’s licence. The completion of basic police training and computer literacy are also recommendations.
