Some women ululated while the men whistled and danced to traditional Sepedi songs. Speaking to the parents, the organiser of the schools, Kgoshi Hlabirwa Sekhukhune said that one of the positive factors was that there were no casualties. “The past four weeks have been hectic,” he noted. “Running an initiation school is not an easy task, but I am glad that there were no casualties.”

Some of the initiates came from as far as Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West.

Sekhukhune and his wife, Kgoshigadi Mahlako, said they are delighted that the schools had attracted youngsters from other villages and owed their success to the fact that they treated the initiates like their own children.

Parents said they were glad that their children came home well and safe. They vowed to support the Motodi schools in the next years. The Motodi initiation schools saw 640 girls and 463 boys graduating.

Meanwhile the Limpopo House of Traditional leader’s chairman, Kgoshi Malesela Dikgale expressed satisfaction that schools in the province had not experienced any unfortunate incidents.

“We are satisfied with the manner in which the authorities at various initiation schools have conducted themselves so far, and hope that there will be no lives lost at the end of this season,” said Dikgale.
