Local athletes recognized in the Sudwala cave race, also known as the Screaming Monster

Front: William Angus, Sello Maqoma, Samson Mphugo, (back) Siyabonga Ndimande, Erik Gwangwa, Patrick Angus, Simon Nkuna, Remember Ndimande and Siyabonga Khumalo.

Local athletes participated in the Sudwala Screaming Monster that took place on April 28 and returned home with a handful of medals. The 21,1-kilometre race involved a climb to the top of the pass and into the Sudwala Caves. Runners could also participate in a 10-kilometre race or a 4,6-kilometre eco fun run.

Erik Gwangwa completed the 21,1 kilometres in a time of 2:08:12 and received a silver medal. Meisie Ndlovu and Patrick Angus also won silver medals.

In the 10-kilometre race, Remember Ndimande received a gold medal with a time of 35:34. Sello Maqoma, Simon Nkuna and Samson Mphugo scooped silver while Siyabonga Khumalo won gold in the junior category. William Angus participated in the eco fun run and won a silver medal.

These athletes will participate in the Selati Half-Marathon and 10-kilometre race on May 12 in Malelane.
