The copper found with the suspect.

MECKLENBURG – A 33-year-old suspect was arrested at the closed Phokathaba Mine at Ga-Mahlokwane Village on January 9 after he was found with copper cables to the street value of R600 000. According to the Mecklenburg police spokesman, Sgt Kgalake Mampuru, they received information from the mine’s security personnel that 21 men entered Phokathaba unlawfully and ransacked it.”When the police vans arrived at the mine the suspects ran away to a nearby mountain. Fortunately, one was cornered and arrested.” Mampuru said during the arrest the police found 105 peeled and rolled copper cables. He added that the suspect will be linked with other cases and more arrests were expected. “He is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court in due course,” Mampuru said.
