BURGERSFORT – There were scenes resembling a horror movie at Mashifane Cemetery during the funeral of a woman, Kgaogelo Makofane of Mashamothane Village on Saturday morning. According to Limpopo provincial police spokesman, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, two men, Richard Makofane (Kgaogelo’s husband) and his unidentified friend were killed by the mourning family. Shortly after the murders Tubatse SAPS, led by Col Mahlathini Ngele, arrested three people. Eric Magale, Comfort Magale and Kgaogelo’s mother, Jane Makofane appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on January 8 on charges of murder, violation of a grave, malicious damage to property and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“They were all remanded in custody. Their case was postponed to January 15 for further police investigation and more arrests are expected,” Ngoepe stated. He said it is alleged that when the two men arrived at the cemetery a member of the family produced a firearm and shot both of them.”They set them alight, threw their bodies into the grave and put the woman’s coffin on top of their bodies before filling the grave,” Ngoepe said.
