Goden Aces snatch first place at tournament

Goden Aces players celebrate after beating Survival FC.

Entertainment was not hard to come by over the festive season as the annual Guider’s Promotional Soccer Tournament took place from December 24 to January 1. The games were held at Kgautswana Village.

The tourney is arguably one of the best to be hosted in the Tubatse area. The tournament was clinched by Goden Aces after thrashing Ga-Motodi’s Survival FC 3-0 in the finals.

The winner’s prize was a whopping R25 000. Teams that participated in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals also received awards, soccer jerseys and cash. Aces were the team to watch throughout the competition. They managed to score 25 goals during their five matches. Tubatse Romans FC’s Bernard Mafane was the top goalscorer of the tournament with 10 goals. He was awarded a trophy and R2 000. Aces’ team owner Goden Sekgokgoba said his players trained hard to win. “We realised that a lot was at stake and took every match seriously. As a team, we appreciate the support from our fans.”

Tournament sponsor, Guider Mnisi thanked all the 32 participating teams. “This is for the youth in Tubatse. This tournament will continue to take place in years to come. “But I am concerned about the discipline shown by the teams as they disregarded the tourney’s rules. I aim to change the lives of the youth locally through sport.”

Mnisi confirmed that a minimum of R80 000 was spent to organise the tournament. The runners-up, Survival FC took home R13 000.
