Calvin College pupils wearing their topes.

BURGERSFORT – Calvin College Preparatory School recently celebrated Sunflower Fund’s National Bandana Day. Pupils spiced up their uniforms with Tubes of Hope (Tope) on the day. Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, the school’s head of department, Zane Neizel said they wanted to show support for the Sunflower Fund.”We encouraged the pupils to wear bandanas, which can be bought at any Pick n Pay outlet. The funds will be used to promote awareness of bone marrow transplants.”Neizel said every Tope purchased at Pick n Pay is a direct donation to the Sunflower Fund.”All funds raised go towards recruiting blood stem cell donors.” The Sunflower Day topes can be worn as a headband, mask, scarf, cap or armband. A single tope costs a mere R25.
