OHRIGSTAD – Crime-prevention operations by the local police continue to yield results. This follows the success of recent operations led by the station commander Capt Alpheus Ramolotja, Vispol members and communication officer Sgt Kholofelo Phokane. Last Monday the station set up two vehicle checkpoints and 17 cars were searched.

“We inspected four liquor outlets, checking for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. We also successfully recovered a Nissan NP300 which had been reported stolen at Tubatse SAPS. Our members indicated to the driver to pull over during their operations, however, the driver refused to do so. A high-speed chase ensued. The three suspects abandoned the vehicle at the remote area of Phiring Village and managed to flee the scene on foot,” said Kholofelo Phokane. The team ran a crime-awareness campaign where they taught the children from Maepa Crèche about abuse and crime.

“Ohrigstad police will continue with various operations throughout the year. This will ensure that our roads and communities are safe, and we are going to maintain our zero-tolerance approach against law breakers,” added Phokane.
