BURGERSFORT – Residents of Extension 10 are fed up with the service delivery from municipalities. They said the Fetakgomo Greater Tubatse Municipality (FGTM) has done nothing to ensure acceleration of service delivery in their community. “We don’t know why we are being neglected by the FGTM and Sekhukhune District Municipality. We want the government to provide RDPs, water and other services in our area,” said a resident, Katlego Matlakala. They threatened to embark on a protest to ensure the municipalities listen to their demands. “We previously scheduled meetings with the municipality, but every time we go there, they ignore us. There is nothing from the government in our area. We are being taken for granted because we reside in shacks. We only see the governing bodies when it is voting time,” they complained. The residents of Extension 10, which is situated behind the Burgersfort Clinic, indicated that they also demand job opportunities from businesses operating near their area. Steelburger/Lydenburg News discovered that there are residents who rely on a single tap for water. The publication contacted the spokesman for the municipality, Kubane Tolo, who indicated that they are providing quality services.”We are appealing to those who have problems to visit the office of the mayor, Johannes Phokane and the speaker Naume Phala at anytime to report any challenges.”Waste is collected at Extension 10, and we are appealing to the residents to familiarise themselves with the new schedule.”Tolo said the issue of housing is the responsibility of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs.

“Our responsibility as the municipality is to coordinate between beneficiaries and the department, but there are RDP houses built at Extension 10.”
