BREAKING NEWS: Armed robbers stopped in their tracks

LYDENBURG – Four armed robbers were apprehended in a joint effort by Sun Security and Lydenburg SAPS on the Frischgewaagd turn-off mere minutes ago after excellent communication between community policing forum (CPF) sites.

According to Andre Venter, who lives in the Frischgewaagd district, he received information that the farm stall of Salie de Jager on the R37 Burgersfort road had just been robbed by the suspects.

Information on CPF Whatsapp groups indicated that the suspects were making their way to Lydenburg and a lookout was given for a red Mazda 323 vehicle with four passengers.

Venter told the Steelburger/Lydenburg News that he quickly phoned Sun Security about the lead.

Andre Marx of Sun Security and his officers were immediately dispatched to the said turn-off as were Lydenburg SAPS officers.

Marx said that as soon as he and his officers identified the vehicle they proceeded to force the vehicle off the road. Members of Sun Security and SAPS officers proceeded to arrest the suspects and found an undisclosed amount of cash and two firearms in their possession. It was later discovered that one of the pistols were, in fact, a gas pistol.

All four suspects will be charged with armed robbery. It will still be determined whether the real pistol used in the robbery is, in fact, a stolen one.

Lydenburg SAPS spokesperson, Capt. Alfred Moela said that he would like to extend his gratitude towards Sun Security for their swift assistance and support with the arrest of the subjects.

Moela said that the suspects court appearance will be made available once confirmed.
