Dedicated comrade receives his fourth medal

Thapelo Maphori.

While most South Africans were glued to their television screens watching the recent Comrades Marathon, won by Bongmusa Mthembu, Tubatse’s own Thapelo Maphori from Moroke Village, competed in his fourth race. Maphori is a member of the Dwarsrivier Marathon Club. He said this year’s race was tough. “Maybe we didn’t prepare properly. I will strive to do better in the upcoming races. I will speed up my training programme this year, so that I will be stronger for next year’s Comrades,” he said. Maphori finished the race in 8:39:10 and received a Bill Rowan medal for his efforts. He said his goal is to win gold or silver in the 2018 race.
