LYDENBURG – It has been years since Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) has appointed a permanent municipal manager.
The new man in the hot seat, Patrick Thoka Kgoala, as well as the new local economic development director, Sindiswa Mathebula, were introduced yesterday during a media briefing at TCLM.
Jonathan Kok, a member of the mayoral committee, said that TCLM does not want to keep residents in the dark about the appointment of the new municipal manager and has therefore called the media briefing to introduce Kgoala to the community.
He said that the municipality is fortunate to have him on board. “I believe that our challenges will gradually be addressed. Kgoala has been appointed on a permanent five-year contract from the beginning of this month.
“I believe that he joins us at the right time and will also be introduced to all stakeholders and key role players of the municipality.”
Kok said Kgoale has previously worked for home affairs and Blouberg Municipality as municipal manager.
Kgoala said this media briefing was the appropriate time to clear the dust about his appointment. “I think this is an opportunity to meet the real person and not just what was portrayed in the media. We hope to have a harmonious relationship with you and to have good things to come.”
Questioned on what will be the main priority at TCLM, Kgoala said the huge outstanding Eskom debt has to be serviced. “We have to sort out Eskom. That is the first priority. We are the servants of the community and we need open communication lines.” He also said TCLM needs to be rebranded.
“This will help us with investment in this town. Notify us if we are not in accordance with the community’s expectations.” Kgoala also agreed to a personal, more in-depth interview with Steelburger/ Lydenburg News to discuss his vision and future for TCLM
