OHRIGSTAD – The local SAPS are excelling in their quest to fight crime. This was evident when their crime-prevention team, led by Vispol commander, WO Jones Malemela, made a breakthrough recently and arrested two suspects aged 25 and 26 on the R36 next to the Caltex Filling Station. In their possession were eight plastic bags full of dagga.”The arrests were made after police pulled over a suspicious-looking brown Mazda bakkie with two occupants and discovered the dagga,” said spokesman for the Ohrigstad SAPS, Sgt Kholofelo Phokane.According to Phokane, the dagga is estimated to be worth R20 000. “The accused appeared in Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court. Their case has been postponed to April 3, and they were not granted bail,” he added.

• Meanwhile on March 27 another suspect was arrested on the gravel road to Kaspernek farm by Ohrigstad’s crime-prevention members also for the possession of dagga weighing 0,012 gram.”The man will appear in Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon or he can plead guilty and pay an admission of guilty fine to the amount of R300 or R500,” said Phokane.

“The SAPS will continue to arrest anyone who is found to be in possession of or dealing in drugs.”We want to send a strong message to all drug lords that our members are working tirelessly to clamp down on them and that their clocks are ticking. It is only a matter of time before we will arrest them.”
