Massive new mall for Lydenburg

LYDENBURG – It’s definate and it’s going to happen soon. One of the biggest investments ever in the town, Panorama Mall, is well under way despite minor setbacks.

Construction is scheduled for later this year with an expected completion date of April 2019. The mall is on the edge of town on the road to Badfontein at the Dullstroom turn-off.

Project managing agent, Mr Alf de la Hunt of the developer, Thornby Mellows One, told Steelburger/Lydenburg News, “We have invested R100 million into the project thus far. “We would not have identified Lydenburg for this mall had we not seen the potential of this town. People should understand that an investment and project of this magnitude takes time and cannot be completed overnight.”

The developer said a retaining wall will be erected later this year before construction begins. Panorama Mall’s lettable area has increased from 28 000 square metres to 30 000. Thornby Mellows One has also distributed several questionnaires to the various mines in the area to establish where their employees do their bulk shopping. The answers provided evidence for the serious need for a mall in town.

De la Hunt said they would never have financed such large amount of money if they doubted the feasibility of completing the project. “It is a lot of money we have invested. We bought the land and serviced it. We are happy to report that the project will go forward.” The developer said monthly progress reports will be provided to Steelburger/ Lydenburg News in order to keep residents up to speed.

They will also meet with the municipality on a monthly basis to discuss progress. The developer said the project will create approximately 500 jobs. Continued from page 1 “There is no doubt that Panorama Mall will become a landmark for the residents to be proud of, and will provide one-stop shopping in an environment that is safe, open, and has ample parking. “We look forward to serving Lydenburg, with the support of the community.”
