Local hockey stars shine

It was survival of the fittest during a friendly hockey tournament between teams from Lydenburg, Bushbuckridge and KaNyamadzane held at Hoërskool Lydenburg on Saturday.

Lydenburg’s first hockey team were the overall winner on the day.

The tournament was a true battle field and the players wanted to show off their skills.

The first match between Bushbuckridge and Lydenburg (second team) ended in a 0-0 draw.

During the second match, KaNyamazane beat Bushbuckridge 2-1.

In their encounter with Bushbuckridge, Lydenburg’s first team made sure they did not repeat the same mistakes that the second team.

It was not an easy game. With only five minutes left the local team scored a goal to secure a 1-0 win.

The day ended with a match between Lydenburg and KaNyamazane. The local team scored two goals in the first half.

The odds were in their favour and they managed to score two more goals during the second half, outshining their opponents 4-0.

The friendly tournament was an initiative by the local club to motivate the public to participate in hockey. Kellysville Primary School’s hockey teams had a chance to showcase their mettle on the hockey field before the start of the adult matches.
