Two women from Lydenburg took part in the gruelling Isuzu 3 Towers Stage Race, which was held at Mankele outside Mbombela from September 30 to October 2.

Jeanette Kruger-Hibbens and Riana Joubert decided to take part in the race to see if they would be able to conquer it.

“We didn’t do it to win, we just wanted to see if we could finish it,” explains Jeanette.

The race that took place over a three-day period, challenged bikers to the limit.

There are three categories which riders could enter, including the stage race which is the hardest of the categories, the challenge and the mncane race.

Jeanette and Riana entered the mncane race, which required of them to complete 34 kilometres each day for the three days.

“Although it was the shortest of the races, it was not easy. It was a wonderful experience nonetheless. It was well organised, road markers were visible and the organisers were extremely helpful. All the food was provided by the Alkmaar Church.”

Both women completed the race and received medals for their participation.
