Riba Cross residents continue to block roads demanding electricity

BURGERSFORT – The violent protests by the residents of Riba Cross continued on Friday morning as residents burnt tyres on the roads and pelted cars with stones. Two buses, one belonging to Vuthi transport as well as the Sekhukhune bus services were also damaged by the residents. The residents said they  are fed with the municipality not providing electricity in the Mandela Section of Riba Cross.On Tuesday, about 20 residents from the village visited the Fetakgomo Greater Tubatse Municipality (FGTM) for a meeting with mayor Johannes Phokane and municipal Manager (MM) Johannes Mohlala. The residents stood in the municipal’s boardroom from 09:30 till 14:00. There was no one from the municipality that addressed them. The residents vowed to keep on blockading the roads in order for their voices to be heard.
