BREAKING: Body discovered in town dam

LYDENBURG – The body of a 38 year-old man was discovered in the town dam on the de Kuilen road just outside town.
His backpack containing his work overall, pay slips, clock card and id was discovered on a rock near the shore of the dam about two meters from his body.
The man had been an employee of Thorncliff mine.
According to reports, his body was discovered by a father and son who went fishing this afternoon.
Hazmat operator, Deon Broekman, said that the body must have been in the water for about three to five days.
The dam raft was used to reach the body in order for Broekman to retrieve it. Rigor mortis had already set in.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Capt. Alfred Moela, it is still unclear how the man ended up in the dam.
It is also not certain whether any foul play is involved. An inquest into his death has been opened.
His name and surname may not be disclosed as family members have not yet been informed of his death.
